P0D84: Battery Charger Input Circuit Intermittent/Erratic
What to do
The car will drive but probably will not charge. Trying different charge points will not help — the fault is on the vehicle side. Look at the charging inlet for damaged, discoloured or corroded pins before booking it in; that is often the whole story.
What this code means
The charger's alternating-current input circuit is faulty.
This is the circuit itself, not a measurement taken on it, and the difference decides where to look. P0D27 to P0D2A say the voltage or current arriving is outside limits — a statement about the supply. These say the path is broken — a statement about the car.
Which means a charge point that works for everybody else is no defence here. The fault is between the inlet pins and the charger: the inlet itself, its connector, the harness running through the car, or the input stage of the charger.
The inlet is where to start, and not because it is cheapest. It is the only part of the high-current path that is exposed to weather, road salt and physical handling several times a week, and it is the one part a user touches. Corrosion or a spread pin there produces a resistance that heats, and the heating makes it worse — which is why the coupler carries a temperature sensor of its own at P0D99.
