P0E03: Generator Phase U Current Sensor Circuit High
What to do
The car will drive, but the engine may run far more than usual while the battery stays low — that pattern is this fault, not a worn-out traction battery. Worth saying so if a pack replacement has been suggested.
What this code means
The circuit for the sensor measuring current in the generator's U phase is faulty.
The generator's phase currents are measured individually, and the reason is the same identity the corpus keeps meeting: three currents in a three-phase machine must sum to zero.
These are the instruments. P0DFA is the audit they make possible. That code compares the three readings and reports that they cannot all be right; these report that one of them is not reachable at all. So a phase sensor circuit code beside a correlation code is not two faults — it is the cause and the consequence, and the circuit code is the one to work on.
The generator matters differently from the drive motor, which is worth holding onto because the parts look identical. A generator converts engine power into electricity; when its inverter cannot measure phase current it cannot control the machine, so the engine can run and produce nothing. The car then behaves as though the traction battery were worn out — the engine runs constantly, achieves little, and economy collapses. That is the misdiagnosis this family invites, and it is an expensive one.
Note this family runs four variants, not five. There is no Intermittent/Erratic code for a generator phase current sensor, where the drive motor's equivalents have one — the standard is not consistent about it, and inferring a fifth address here would land on the next phase.
