What this code means

Section E of the traction battery is reporting a voltage outside its expected range.

These are readings, not instruments, and the corpus draws that line everywhere. The sense circuits at P0E44 say the measuring path is faulty. These say the measurement was taken and the voltage really is wrong.

Reaching battery E and F means a vehicle whose pack is divided into at least six addressable sections — which is how a large battery is built and managed, because a fault confined to one section is worth locating rather than attributing to the whole. The letter is the section, and the vehicle's documentation is the only thing that maps a letter to a physical module.

The discriminator that matters most is at P0B14 and it applies to every code in this family: a high-resistance sense line and a genuinely weak section give the same reading. One is a connector, the other is a battery, and the difference is thousands of pounds. A battery cannot change instantly — so a reading that steps is wiring, and a reading that sags under load and recovers slowly is chemistry.

The most diagnostically useful word in this family. A voltage that is simply wrong can be a sensor with an offset; a voltage that oscillates cannot. Something that swings is describing a real electrical event, and on a high-current joint that means a connection whose resistance changes with temperature and vibration — which heats, and gets worse as it heats. This one deserves attention sooner than its symptoms suggest.
