P2081: Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit Intermittent — Bank 1 Sensor 1
What to do
A fault that appears only once everything is thoroughly hot points at heat-damaged wiring along the exhaust. Worth fixing before the aborted regenerations accumulate into a filter problem.
What this code means
The first exhaust temperature signal is cutting in and out — jumps no exhaust stream could produce, convicting the wiring.
This harness has the corpus's hardest posting: clipped along the hottest pipework on the vehicle, where insulation bakes brittle and connectors cook. The heat-damage causes lead for that reason, and dropouts that appear once the exhaust is fully hot — fine on the first miles, faulting after — are the location's signature. An interrupted signal also interrupts regeneration supervision, so the module typically aborts any regeneration in progress when the reading drops out.
