U0203: Lost Communication With Door Control Module E
What to do
The car drives normally. A door beyond the usual four will have stopped responding — most likely a sliding side door, a powered tailgate or a rear gate.
Whatever it is, its wiring is the first suspect rather than the module. These doors drag their looms along tracks or across hinges far harder than an ordinary door does, over thousands of cycles, so broken conductors inside the flexing section are the expected finding rather than a long shot.
On a powered tailgate, mention any sign of water at the back of the vehicle — a damp boot floor, a misted rear light, a leaking rear screen seal. The wiring crosses the hinge exactly where those leaks run.
Ask for the harness to be inspected and repaired before a module is ordered; a new module on a broken loom behaves identically.
What this code means
The fifth door control module has stopped being heard from. The block's framing is at U0200.
A fifth door module means the vehicle is not an ordinary car, and identifying what it actually controls is the first job rather than an afterthought. Beyond four passenger doors, the candidates are a powered tailgate or rear gate, a sliding side door on a van or MPV, a second sliding door, or on larger vehicles a rear cargo or crew door.
Every one of those moves its harness far more aggressively than a hinged passenger door does, and that is the diagnostic point. A hinged door flexes its loom through a modest arc inside a rubber boot. A sliding door drags its wiring along a track or through an articulated carrier over a much longer travel, thousands of times — so conductor fatigue is not an unusual finding here but the expected one, and it is worth going to first.
Powered tailgates add their own version: the loom crosses the hinge line at the top of the aperture, where it is both flexed and sitting in the path of anything that leaks past the rear screen seal or the high-level brake light. Water and flexing together, in one place.
Given that, the repair worth asking for is often a harness or a repair section rather than a module, and a module fitted to an unrepaired loom will report the same fault.
