U0204: Lost Communication With Door Control Module F
What to do
The vehicle drives normally; one of its doors has stopped responding electrically.
On a van or converted vehicle, the most useful question is what has been fitted rather than what has failed. Racking or shelving bolted through a panel, a tail-lift or access ramp wired into the vehicle, or interior lining refitted over a trapped cable will all produce this — and none of it is visible unless somebody knows to look for it.
Mention any conversion, aftermarket equipment or bodywork done to the vehicle, and mention whether several systems went at once. Added equipment sharing the vehicle's network can hold it down and silence a number of modules together, which looks far worse than it is and is one fault rather than many.
Door wiring on a working vehicle also takes abuse a car's never does — loads shifting against it, doors held open all day, wash-downs — so the harness is a likelier suspect than the module.
What this code means
The sixth door control module has stopped being heard from. See U0200 for the block's framing and U0203 for what a door module beyond the usual four normally turns out to be.
Six door modules puts the vehicle firmly outside passenger-car territory — a van with two sliding doors and a pair of rear barn doors, a minibus, a crew cab, or a converted vehicle with powered access equipment. That population is worth naming because it changes what caused the fault far more than the electronics do.
These are working vehicles. Their door wiring is subject to things no passenger car sees: loads shifting against interior trim, racking and shelving bolted through panels, doors held open in traffic for hours, wash-downs, and conversions carried out after the vehicle left the factory. A fault on a high-numbered door module is disproportionately likely to be mechanical damage or a previous installer's wiring rather than a component failing on its own.
So the question that finds it fastest is what has been fitted or done to the vehicle, not what has worn out. A shelving unit screwed through a loom, a tail-lift or access ramp spliced into the body network, an interior lining refitted over a trapped cable — each produces exactly this and none of them is visible without knowing to look.
On converted vehicles the added equipment is frequently on the same bus, which introduces the other possibility from U0200: an aftermarket device holding the network down, so several modules go quiet together.
