Cadillac DeVille
Cadillac's front-drive full-size saloon, and the car that became the DTS in 2006 with the nameplate retired rather than the vehicle replaced — a 2007 DTS is a 2000 DeVille with revisions, so parts and procedures cross that line. Almost all of them run the Northstar V8, whose head-bolt thread pull is the failure that decides what an overheat or a coolant-loss complaint on one of these actually costs: the block is aluminium, the threads strip, and a head gasket job becomes a time-serted engine-out repair. That, and the 4T80-E transaxle behind it, are what a diagnosis here turns on.

Seventh generation 1994–1999
The first DeVille on the Northstar. Base cars kept the older 4.9 HT V8 for two years, so a 1994 or 1995 car may be either engine and the diagnosis differs.

Eighth generation 1999–2005
G-body, sold as DeVille, DHS and DTS trims. Night Vision, StabiliTrak and road-sensing suspension arrive, so an electrical complaint here has far more modules behind it than the previous car.
