Suzuki's 1.3 to 1.6 litre petrol four — the engine of the Jimny, Swift, SX4 and Vitara of the 2000s and 2010s, and the K-series' predecessor in most applications.

Chain-driven, port-injected and mechanically simple, with a durability record that is the main reason older Jimnys and Swifts remain in service. The absence of direct injection and turbocharging is the summary: no carbon problem, no high-pressure fuel system, no boost-related failures, and a diagnostic profile dominated by sensors, ignition and vacuum leaks.

What does recur at high mileage is timing-chain and tensioner noise, and on vehicles used off-road or in dusty conditions, intake and air-filtration neglect that shows up as an airflow-sensor complaint. In several markets these engines run on poor fuel, where knock codes are worth reading as fuel quality before as sensor failure.
