Mahindra mStallion (2.0 4G20)
2.0 L · inline-4 · turbocompressé · essence · 2020–present
Également appelé: mstallion, m-stallion, 2.0 mstallion, mstallion 200, mahindra 4g20, 4g20 mahindra
Mahindra's 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol four, designated 4G20 and badged mStallion — the engine in the Thar, the XUV700, the Scorpio-N and the Thar Roxx. Built at Igatpuri from 2020 and developed jointly with SsangYong, which Mahindra owned at the time; 1,997 cc, mounted east-west in the XUV700 and north-south in the rear-drive cars.
⚑ mStallion is a badge over two unrelated engines, and this page is only the four-cylinder. The XUV300 and XUV 3XO wear the same word over a 1.2-litre three-cylinder — the G12 TCMPFi at 110 hp and the G12 TGDi at 130 — which is a different block, a different cylinder count and a different plant. Check the displacement before applying anything written here, because three cylinders means a single-cylinder misfire is a third of the engine and a per-bank diagnosis has nowhere to go.
It is offered in several tunes and they are not one calibration. Mahindra publishes 150 hp at 5,000 with 30 to 32 kg-m from about 1,250, and 203 hp at 5,000 with 37 to 38 kg-m from 1,750; the Thar Roxx sits between them. A torque figure quoted without the variant describes none of them, which is why the car pages carry ranges rather than a single number.
The diesel beside it in the same bodies is the mHawk, and that name is not one engine either — the 2.2 in the Scorpio, Thar and XUV700 is a re-engineered PSA DW12 with twenty years of European fleet history behind it, and the Gen2 4D22 is Mahindra's own 2,184 cc replacement. Both have pages here.
Its faults are the modern turbo-petrol set and the ordinary rules apply: the turbocharger's oil feed is what the oil interval is really protecting, direct injection puts carbon on the intake valves at mileage because no fuel washes them, and a boost complaint is a leak test before it is a turbocharger.
English-language documentation is thin outside India. Establish the engine name before searching, because the same body carries this, a 1.2 triple wearing the same badge, and two different diesels.
