Stop if the engine light is flashing, even if the car feels fine. On an engine this size a single dead cylinder is easy not to notice, but it is still sending unburnt fuel into the catalytic converter at full rate — and converters on these vehicles are expensive. The absence of a symptom is not evidence that it can wait.

Beyond eight cylinders, a single misfire becomes hard to feel — and that changes the risk rather than reducing it. On a four-cylinder engine losing one cylinder removes a quarter of the power and shakes the car noticeably; on a ten or twelve-cylinder engine it removes a tenth or a twelfth, smoothed by the remaining cylinders and by a driveline built for a large, refined engine. Drivers frequently report nothing more than a slight roughness at idle, or nothing at all.
The damage does not scale down with the sensation. That cylinder is still pumping raw fuel into a hot catalytic converter at the same rate it would on a small engine, and these vehicles typically have two converters that cost a great deal.
So on a large engine the flashing engine light is doing more work than usual: it is the only warning, because the car is comfortable enough to hide the fault.
