The pony car, and the split worth knowing is the ignition. The fourth generation (1993-2002) runs the LT1 with Opti-Spark, a distributor mounted under the water pump — so a pump weeping coolant soaks the ignition and produces a misfire whose real cause is a cooling fault, which is the diagnosis this generation is most often got wrong. From 1998 the LS1 drops that arrangement entirely. The fifth and sixth generations share LS/LT V8 architecture with the trucks, which means truck-derived diagnostic knowledge, AFM lifters included, applies to the coupé.
