Что делать

Get this looked at promptly, and do not attempt it yourself. An airbag fault usually means the whole restraint system has switched itself off, so the airbags and pretensioners may not fire in a crash — the car drives normally and is far less able to protect you. Never probe airbag wiring with a multimeter: the current an ordinary meter uses can set off the charge. This needs a workshop with the right equipment and the correct disable procedure.

Что означает этот код

The deployment loop for the driver frontal airbag, first stage is faulty.

Every code in this range describes a deployment loop — the circuit that fires a pyrotechnic device — and understanding what that means changes how the fault should be treated.

An airbag is not inflated by a pump. It is inflated by a controlled explosion. Each one contains an initiator, usually called a squib: a small electrically fired charge that ignites a propellant and fills the bag in around thirty milliseconds. Seat belt pretensioners and load limiters work the same way — the whole system is pyrotechnic, which is why it is called a supplemental restraint system rather than an airbag system.

The restraints module watches each loop continuously by measuring its resistance. A squib has a precise, known resistance, so the module can tell an intact device from an open circuit, a short to earth, or a short to power without ever firing anything. This family of codes is that measurement failing.

What makes a fault here serious is not that the car drives badly — it will drive perfectly — but that the system usually disables itself. A module that cannot verify one loop generally will not authorise any deployment, because firing some devices and not others can be worse than firing none. So a single loop fault commonly means the whole restraint system is inactive, and the warning lamp is the only sign.

And the reverse risk is real: a damaged loop can fire the device. That is why this system is never worked on live, and why an ordinary multimeter must never be put across a deployment loop — the current a meter uses to measure resistance can be enough to initiate a squib. Dedicated equipment and the correct disable procedure exist for exactly this reason.

"Stage 1", "Stage 2" and "Stage 3" are not three airbags. They are separate charges inside one, and the module chooses how many to fire and how far apart.

That is what makes a modern frontal airbag adaptive. A bag inflated at full force is right for a severe impact and genuinely dangerous in a mild one — early single-stage designs injured people in crashes they would otherwise have walked away from. So the module decides, in the milliseconds before deployment, how hard to inflate, using crash severity, whether the belt is buckled, how far forward the seat is, and on many cars the occupant's weight from the seat sensor.

Firing two stages a few milliseconds apart gives a softer, longer inflation than firing both together. The stages are a way of varying force with a device that can only be on or off.

Which is why a fault in one stage matters even though the others are intact. The module loses its ability to choose — and rather than deploy at a force it cannot control, it will normally disable the airbag entirely.

The driver airbag has a failure point nothing else in the car shares: the clockspring. Its deployment loop has to reach a component that rotates — the steering wheel — so the connection is made through a flat ribbon cable coiled inside the column, which winds and unwinds as you steer. It wears out, and it is the single commonest cause of a driver airbag circuit fault. A car that has had steering or column work, or whose horn and wheel buttons have also stopped working, is pointing at the clockspring rather than the airbag.
