Ask whether the same fault is stored for the other bank. Both sides share the same oil and filter, so if both banks are slow the problem is the oil rather than the hardware — and that is a much smaller repair than two solenoids or two phasers.
Ask for the bank to be confirmed against the manufacturer's diagram before any part is replaced. Bank 2 is not always the side you would expect.
Say when the oil was last changed and what grade went in, since that is the shared cause worth eliminating first.
Ask for the oil control solenoid screen to be cleaned, which is the commonest single fix in this family.

The intake camshaft phaser on bank 2 is moving to its commanded position too slowly.
A bank 2 code means a V engine or a flat one, and that gives the diagnosis something the single-bank version does not have: a control. Both banks share the same oil, the same pump and the same filter. Everything upstream of the two solenoids is common.
So the comparison is genuinely decisive.
- One bank slow, the other normal — the fault is downstream of the split. That bank's solenoid, its screen, or its phaser. The oil is fine, because the other bank is getting the same oil and working.
- Both banks slow together — the fault is upstream and shared. Oil viscosity, oil condition, oil level, or supply pressure. Replacing two solenoids is the expensive way to discover that.
That single question — is the other bank affected? — should be asked before any part is ordered, and it is answered from the stored codes without touching the engine.
Bank identification is the usual trap. Bank 1 contains cylinder 1, which is not always the side nearest the front of the car and differs between manufacturers. Confirm it against the manufacturer's diagram before working on a phaser that is not the one complaining.
The order of investigation is otherwise the family's: solenoid screen, oil, solenoid, phaser.
