Do not trust your dashboard while this is stored. That is the whole of this page, and it is not an exaggeration.
An instrument panel is not a screen that displays whatever it is sent. It holds a list of the warning lamps and messages your particular car can produce, and it lights one when the matching message arrives.
When its software does not match the rest of the car, that list is wrong — and a warning the car is genuinely trying to give you, for a lamp it no longer believes it has, simply never appears. No error, no substitute, no clue at all. Your dashboard looks completely normal while the car has been trying to tell you something.
Any warning can be the missing one: brake fluid, coolant, oil pressure, tyre pressure.
So until this is fixed, check things by hand. Coolant level, oil level and tyre pressures, and do it weekly rather than never. And treat the absence of a warning light as meaning nothing at all.
Nothing is broken — this is a programming job.
One thing to insist on if the cluster has to be replaced. On many cars it stores your recorded mileage. A second-hand one carries the mileage of the car it came out of, which is a legal problem in most countries as well as a technical one. Any replacement must be programmed with the correct figure and documented.

One naming note, because the two ranges genuinely differ and it is not a typographical accident. The standard calls this module the Instrument Panel Control Module here, while the lost-communication range at U0155 calls it the Instrument Panel Cluster Control Module. The two lists are not parallel — a fact established by comparing them directly rather than assumed — and both names describe the same unit.
Now the reason this page carries a high severity when a dashboard sounds like a display: an instrument cluster's software defines which warnings exist.
A cluster is not a screen showing whatever it is sent. It holds the list of lamps and messages this vehicle can produce, and it illuminates one when a corresponding message arrives. A cluster configured for a different specification has a different list.
Which produces the failure this page exists for, and it is silent by construction. A warning that the vehicle is genuinely trying to raise, for a lamp the cluster does not believe it has, simply never appears. There is no error, no fallback and no marker — the driver sees a normal dashboard and the vehicle has been trying to tell them something. A brake fluid warning, a coolant warning, a tyre pressure alert, an oil pressure lamp: any of them can be missing while everything looks perfectly ordinary.
So the instruction is unusually direct for a configuration fault: do not trust the dashboard while this is stored. Check coolant, oil and tyre pressures by hand, and treat the absence of a warning as meaning nothing at all.
And the U0457 replacement trap applies here too: on many vehicles the recorded mileage lives in this module, so a second-hand one brings another vehicle's odometer reading with it — a technical problem and, in most jurisdictions, a legal one.
