Vehicle pulls to one side
The car wanders toward one side and has to be held straight, or it swerves when you brake. Whether it happens while braking is the question that splits the diagnosis: a pull only under braking points at one corner's brake not releasing or not applying, while a constant pull points at alignment, tyre pressures or a tyre itself. There is also an electronic possibility that did not exist on older cars — stability and anti-lock systems can apply one brake on their own, so a wheel speed signal the car does not trust can produce a pull that no amount of alignment will fix.

What this usually means
Separate a pull under braking from a pull while driving, because they are different systems. A car that tracks straight and pulls only when the brakes are applied is a brake fault; one that pulls while cruising is tyres, geometry or a dragging brake.
Tyres come first because they are free to test and account for more of this than anything else. A tyre can pull through construction rather than wear — the belt's angle produces a lateral force that has nothing to do with pressure or alignment. The test is to swap the front tyres side to side: if the pull swaps with them, it is the tyre. That takes minutes and settles the question outright.
Then pressures. A front tyre significantly softer than its opposite pulls toward the soft side, and it is the check nobody makes before booking an alignment.
Then geometry. Uneven camber or caster pulls consistently, and it is measured rather than guessed — but measure the rear as well, because a rear thrust angle that is off makes the car track with the front turned slightly.
A dragging brake pulls and heats. Feel each wheel after a drive: a hot corner names itself, and the cause is a seized caliper, seized slide pins, or a collapsed flexible hose trapping pressure.
A pull under braking alone is hydraulic or friction: one caliper not applying, a contaminated pad, or a hose restricting flow to one side. A pull that reverses direction under braking is particularly diagnostic — the car is being pulled one way by geometry and the other by an uneven brake.
A strong pull that appeared suddenly deserves inspection before further driving, because a seized brake or a failed suspension component can produce it.
