Mercury Cougar
Two very different cars share the name here. The 1989-1997 Cougar is a rear-drive MN12 coupé shared with the Ford Thunderbird, with the 3.8 Essex V6 whose head gaskets are its defining failure — they leak between cylinders and into the coolant, producing overheating and misfires long before any external sign. The 1999-2002 car is an entirely different proposition: front-drive, on the Mondeo-derived CDW27 platform, with the Zetec four and Duratec V6, and its faults belong to that family instead. Establish which one you have before applying anything written about the badge.
