Faulty crankshaft position sensor
The primary engine speed and position signal. Losing it stops the engine, so an engine that runs proves the sensor is delivering — which makes this cause much less likely on any code where the car still starts.
Heat-related failure is the classic pattern: starts perfectly cold, cuts out once warm, restarts after standing.
Typically a moderate job.
