Faulty motor temperature sensor
The thermistor buried in a motor's windings, whose reading is what lets the module derate power before heat damages the insulation. A failed one overheats nothing by itself — but it forces the module to substitute caution for measurement, and a sensor lying in the hot direction produces phantom over-temperature derates on a perfectly cool machine.
Buried is the operative word: the sensor is inside the transaxle, so replacing it is major work, while the wiring to it is external and fails far more often. It earns its place on a code's list only after the harness and connectors have been ruled out — the same asymmetry as the resolver it shares the transaxle with.
