P0BCC: Generator Inverter Temperature Sensor A Circuit
What to do
If the complaint is that the battery no longer holds charge and the engine runs constantly, this code is a much better lead than it looks — the generator being thermally limited stops the engine replenishing the battery, and it is nothing to do with the battery itself. Worth checking the electronics coolant level (a separate reservoir from the engine's on most vehicles) before anything expensive is considered.
What this code means
The temperature sensor watching the generator's inverter has a circuit fault.
The generator has an inverter of its own, separate from the drive motor's, and that is worth knowing before this code makes sense. On a power-split or series hybrid the engine does not drive the wheels directly so much as drive a generator, and the electricity it produces is handled by its own power stage — its own switches, its own cooling path, its own thermal sensor.
So the symptom of a generator inverter running hot is not what people expect: it is the engine becoming unable to charge the battery. The module protects the power stage by limiting how much the generator may produce, which presents as an electric-only range that collapses, a battery that will not hold charge, and an engine that runs more and achieves less. None of that points at a temperature sensor, and it is easy to diagnose as a tired battery.
Where the sensor's reading is simply faulty rather than the inverter genuinely being hot, that derating happens to healthy hardware — which is the usual reason to fix an instrument rather than live with it.
