P0363: Misfire Detected — Fuelling Disabled

Do not keep driving

Stop driving and have the vehicle recovered. The module has already judged the misfire severe enough to shut a cylinder down to protect the exhaust; continuing risks a catalytic converter replacement on top of whatever caused the misfire. Expect the workshop to check converter condition as well as the misfire itself.

What this code means

The misfire has been severe enough that the control module has cut fuel to the affected cylinder entirely. This is a protective action, not a fault in itself: with the cylinder dead, no more raw fuel reaches the catalytic converter, and the converter survives. The module has decided that running on fewer cylinders is preferable to destroying the exhaust.

That makes this code a statement about how bad things already are. It is set after a misfire has persisted, so by the time it appears the underlying fault has usually been present and ignored for some time — and the catalytic converter may already have taken damage.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
