P0728: Engine Speed Input Circuit Intermittent
What to do
Note whether the rev counter twitches at the same moment the transmission misbehaves; if it does, the signal is dropping out and the gearbox is reacting correctly to losing it.
What this code means
The engine speed value reaching the transmission cuts out briefly and returns. The transmission's response to losing it is a protective shift, so the symptom is a gearbox that goes wrong for a few seconds at a time — often accompanied by a rev counter that flicks, which is a strong hint the signal itself is dropping rather than the transmission misreading it.
Intermittent bus and ground faults are the usual cause, and both are provoked by vibration and heat rather than by anything the driver does. Wiggle testing with live data recording is the practical approach, and it is worth doing before any module is replaced.

Information, not instruction
CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.
Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.
What makes one worth reading:
- The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
- What you measured, not only what you replaced.
- What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
