P0905: Gate Select Position Circuit A Range/Performance
What to do
Expect gears to be missing in groups. Ask whether the gearbox actuator calibration has been checked or re-run before parts are ordered — a sensor that has drifted out of calibration reports a fault on a mechanism that is working.
What this code means
The gate select position signal is present but implausible — a value between the defined gate planes, or one that does not change when the actuator is driven.
A position resting between planes is the case to recognise. On an H-pattern gearbox the space between gates is not a valid place to be: the mechanism should always be in one plane or moving decisively to another. A sensor reporting a position in between means either the actuator has stalled partway, or the sensor has drifted out of calibration and is misreporting a perfectly good position. The two need separating before anything is opened, and a calibration procedure is the cheaper thing to try first.
