P0D22: Battery Charger A Output Current Performance
What to do
The car will drive normally and charge slowly. Note whether it is slow everywhere or only at one charge point — the difference is most of the diagnosis. A charger that has genuinely lost output capability needs replacing as an assembly.
What this code means
The current the on-board charger is delivering to the traction battery does not match what was commanded.
This is the constant-current half of the pair whose other half is P0D20. Current is what sets charging speed — the number an owner actually experiences, because it decides whether the car is full in four hours or nine. So this is the code behind the complaint that a car has become slow to charge with nothing else apparently wrong.
Current is also the quantity the charge point has a say in. The Control Pilot tells the car a maximum (see P0CF3), and the charger must obey it. A charger delivering less current than commanded may simply be obeying a limit the car has not told the diagnostic about, which is why the pilot's stated limit is worth reading before the charger is doubted.
The measurement itself comes from P0D51's sensor, so a sensor that reads low makes a healthy charger look weak.
