What to do

Charging will be slow or will not start. The predicted range may also be wrong for a while afterwards, even once the fault is fixed, until the car has completed a full charge to recalibrate.

What this code means

The circuit for the sensor measuring the charger's high voltage output current is faulty.

This is the sensor that sets how fast the car charges, because in the constant-current phase — most of a charge — current is the quantity being controlled and everything else follows from it.

It is also half of the pack's fuel gauge. State of charge on a traction battery is counted rather than measured: the module integrates current in and out over time, because a lithium pack's voltage barely moves across most of its usable range and cannot be read like a fuel level. The argument is set out at P0B0E. A charging current that is mismeasured therefore does not just charge at the wrong rate — it teaches the car a wrong state of charge, and the range estimate stays wrong afterwards until the pack is next fully charged or fully depleted.

That lingering effect is worth knowing, because a car whose range prediction went strange after a charging fault has not necessarily got two problems.

The signal is at or below its lower limit — usually a short to earth, or an open in the sensor's supply.
