P0D33: DC/DC Converter Current High
What to do
The car will drive normally. Expect the 12-volt battery to go flat if it is left standing. The likely cause is something else on the car staying awake, so a shop should measure the standing current draw before anyone replaces the converter.
What this code means
The DC/DC converter is delivering more current to the 12-volt system than expected.
A converter delivering too much current is usually telling you about something else entirely, because current is drawn rather than pushed. Something on the 12-volt side is consuming it.
The classic version is a load that will not switch off — a cooling fan running with the car asleep, a wake-up line stuck active (the P0CC6 pattern), a relay welded closed, a module that never enters low-power mode. All of these present first as a converter working harder than it should, and only later as a battery going flat.
The other version is a short. A chafed 12-volt circuit drawing current through a partial earth path looks identical from the converter's side, which is why the useful diagnostic is a current measurement with the car asleep rather than a look at the converter.
Replacing the converter for this is the wrong move often enough to be worth stating plainly — it is a witness, not usually the culprit.
