P0D5B: Battery Charger 14 Volt Output Power Performance
What to do
The car will drive. The 12-volt battery may be weak after long charging sessions. If the car has been slow to wake or has needed a jump start, mention that — it is the same fault seen from the driver's seat.
What this code means
The power delivered on the charger's 14-volt output is not what it should be.
A power code sits above the voltage and current codes rather than beside them, and the relationship is worth being explicit about: power is voltage multiplied by current. So a power fault with no voltage fault and no current fault means both measurements are individually within range and their product is not.
That combination is more informative than it looks. It rules out a single failed sensor — a sensor failure would show as its own code. What it leaves is a real mismatch: the output is holding voltage but cannot sustain it under load, or is delivering current at a voltage that has quietly sagged, in each case by amounts too small to trip either limit alone.
On the 14-volt side the practical consequence is at P0D42: the 12-volt battery does not get properly charged during a long charging session, and the failure surfaces days later as a car that will not wake up.
