P0D47: Battery Charger 14 Volt Output Current Sensor Circuit
What to do
The car will drive and charge normally. The 12-volt battery loses the car's own monitoring of it, so an ageing one may fail without the usual advance warning.
What this code means
The circuit for the sensor measuring the current on the charger's 14-volt output is faulty.
Voltage says what is offered; current says what is being taken. The pair at P0D42 and here is the same split the corpus draws throughout — an instrument reading the pressure and an instrument reading the flow — and each answers a question the other cannot.
Current is the one that reveals the state of the 12-volt battery. A healthy battery accepts a large current briefly and then tapers to almost nothing. A battery near the end of its life accepts current indefinitely and never tapers, because it cannot hold the charge it is given. So this measurement is how the car forms an opinion about a battery it has no other way to test, and losing it means losing the warning that usually arrives weeks before a no-start.
It is also the measurement that would catch the runaway load described at P0D33.
