P2028: Evaporative Emission Fuel Vapour Temperature Sensor Circuit Intermittent

What to do

No driveability effect — the cost is the evaporative monitor never finishing, which surfaces at emissions test time. Note when the warning appears; a wet-weather pattern points at the tank-top connector.

What this code means

The fuel vapour temperature signal is cutting in and out — the intermittent variant that completes the family at P2024–P2027, and the last unwritten code in the P20xx block until today.

Vapour temperature moves slowly, so jumps convict the wiring as they do everywhere in the corpus. The sensor lives at the fuel tank, which puts its connector in underfloor weather — damp-day patterns are the classic evidence. The consequence is the family's usual one: the evaporative self-test cannot interpret pressure without temperature, so monitors stop completing rather than anything being felt.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
