P2167: Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor E Maximum Stop Performance

What to do

Look under the pedal first; an obstruction is free to find and a real cause. Ask whether a correlation code is stored as well — if not, the two sensors still agree with each other, which points at a reference that needs relearning rather than a failed part.

What this code means

The learned fully open position for sensor E has drifted. The argument is under P2164 and the grouping point under P2166.

E is the partner of D in the redundancy pair covered by the correlation code at P2138 — deliberately mismatched outputs, so that a single failed sensor cannot agree with itself and hide. A maximum stop code on E with no correlation code alongside it usually means the pair still agree with each other about position and only the learned end reference has moved, which is the cheaper of the two situations.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
