P2292: Injector Control Pressure Erratic
What to do
Expect running that varies — surging, uneven power, sometimes rough and sometimes fine. Ask for the pressure to be checked with a mechanical gauge, which separates an erratic sensor reading from genuinely erratic pressure and costs far less than guessing. If the engine has recently had work on the oil system or has run low on oil, mention it: air trapped in the high-pressure circuit is a common cause and may only need bleeding.
What this code means
Injection control pressure is moving unpredictably rather than holding what was commanded.
This is the mechanical counterpart to the intermittent sensor code at P2287, and separating the two is the first task: an erratic reading is a wiring or sensor problem, while erratic pressure is a hydraulic one. A mechanical gauge settles it.
Where the pressure is genuinely unstable, the leading explanation is air in the high-pressure oil circuit. Air compresses and oil does not, so a system carrying air cannot hold a steady pressure — it surges and sags as the bubble is compressed and released. That commonly follows any repair that opened the circuit, or a period of running with the oil level low enough to draw air in, and it may purge itself with running or may need bleeding.
A regulator hunting because its own feedback is unreliable produces a similar picture, which is why the sensor deserves eliminating before the hydraulics are opened up.
