High-Pressure Oil Pump
On hydraulically actuated injection systems, the pump that raises engine oil to the pressures the injectors need to fire — commonly a few thousand psi. Unusual in that engine oil is doing structural work rather than lubricating: this pump is part of the fuel system's force path, so oil level, viscosity and condition become starting and running problems rather than maintenance ones.
