Stop if the engine light is flashing. If you are advised to replace all the coils at once, ask why. Coils do not wear evenly the way spark plugs do, so a working coil is not part-used — replacing the set is often unnecessary. It becomes a fair recommendation if the coils are original at high mileage, or if two or three have already failed one after another, which suggests the whole batch is tired.

Eight coils raises a question of economics that is worth answering plainly: should the whole set be replaced while the engine is apart?
For spark plugs the answer is yes — they wear at a broadly similar rate, they are consumed by use, and the labour to reach them is the expensive part. For coils it is generally no. Coils do not wear uniformly. They fail from insulation breakdown, heat, contamination in one plug well, or a manufacturing weakness in one unit, and none of those progresses evenly across a set. A coil that is working is not part-way through a life the way a plug is.
So the common advice to replace all eight because the engine is open is usually spending seven parts' worth of money to avoid a labour charge that may never arrive. The exception worth taking seriously is where the coils are original and very high mileage, or where two or three have already failed in short succession — that pattern suggests the batch rather than the individual, and then replacing the set is a reasonable judgement rather than an upsell.
