What to do
The engine runs fine — the tells are subtle: a shudder at switch-off that was not there before, and EGR-flow codes keeping this one company. Ordinary wiring work, with the carbon caveat of the P2394 family if the valve itself is implicated.
What this code means
The control circuit for the second diesel intake air flow valve has failed open — and the valve itself deserves the introduction, because a throttle on a diesel confuses everyone the first time.
A diesel does not need a throttle to run. It controls power by fuel alone and breathes unthrottled — which is why the valve this family controls exists for other reasons entirely: pinching the intake creates the pressure drop that drives EGR flow (exhaust will not recirculate into a manifold at equal pressure), and closing it at shutdown starves the engine into stopping smoothly instead of shuddering against compression. The corpus's P0487 family covers the first valve; the B designator lands on engines with a second — twin-bank V diesels, or installations where the low-pressure EGR circuit has its own flow valve.
An open control circuit leaves the valve sprung to its default, which is deliberately wide open — the engine runs normally, EGR flow on that path suffers, and the one thing the driver may notice is the shutdown shudder returning: the anti-judder job undone. Wiring first, per the standing pattern.
