P2521: Air Conditioning Request A Circuit High

What to do

Expect no air conditioning. If any work has been done behind the dashboard — heater, stereo, instrument panel — mention it, because those connectors are easily left unseated and that is a free fix rather than a refrigerant repair. Do not agree to a regas while this code is stored.

What this code means

The air conditioning request circuit reads above its valid range — an open circuit, a disconnected connector, or a short to supply. The consequence is that described at P2519: the request never arrives, and the air conditioning does not work while everything in the refrigerant circuit is healthy.

An open circuit is by far the more common of the two, and the connectors behind a dashboard are disturbed by any work on the heater, the radio or the instrument panel — which makes recent interior work a strong pointer.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
