P2580: Turbocharger/Supercharger Speed Sensor A Circuit Low
What to do
The engine will feel down on power. That is the module protecting the turbocharger because it can no longer tell how fast it is spinning, so driving gently to a workshop is fine.
Ask for the wiring to be inspected before the sensor is replaced. This loom runs against a housing full of exhaust gas and is one of the hottest on the vehicle — cracked insulation touching the housing is a leading cause here, and a new sensor on a damaged loom simply fails again.
What this code means
The turbocharger speed circuit reads below its valid range — a short to ground, a failed reference supply, or a sensor producing nothing when it should be producing a signal.
A speed sensor reading zero is ambiguous in a way that most sensors are not, and the module has to resolve it. Zero is a perfectly plausible physical value: a turbocharger genuinely is stationary with the engine off, and nearly stationary at idle. So the module judges the reading against what the engine is doing — a reported zero while the engine is under load and making boost cannot be true, and that is what sets this code rather than the number itself.
The practical consequence is that a sensor which has failed silently produces this code only once the engine works hard enough for the reading to become impossible, which is why it often appears on a motorway journey rather than around town.
Heat is the leading reason the circuit fails here. The sensor threads into a housing carrying exhaust gas, so its wiring is among the hottest on the vehicle, and insulation that has hardened and cracked has a grounded metal housing immediately beneath it.
With no usable speed signal the module caps boost protectively, so the engine feels flat.
