P2592: Cruise Control Front Distance Range Sensor Right
What to do
The car drives normally, but adaptive cruise control will not engage — and since these sensors usually feed the forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking as well, assume those are unavailable and drive as though the car will not brake for you.
Clean the sensor area first. This is the right-hand sensor, and dirt, road salt, packed snow or spray over the grille or bumper on that side will blind it completely. That is free to check and resolves a good share of these.
The side is a clue worth mentioning. Kerb strikes, parking scuffs and stone damage all land more often on the side of the car nearer the kerb, so a fault that keeps coming back on the same side is often about where the car lives rather than a poor sensor.
If the front of the car has been apart or knocked, both sensors must be recalibrated together — they work by comparing what each one sees, so doing only one leaves them disagreeing.

What is worth adding is the comparison the pair makes available, because it is the fastest way to separate a dirty sensor from a failed one. Two sensors of the same age, on the same vehicle, looking at the same road, should report the same objects. When one disagrees with the other, the disagreement itself localises the fault — and it means a workshop can often tell within minutes whether the sensor is failing or simply obstructed, without removing anything.
It also means the side matters diagnostically. Kerb strikes, minor parking damage and stone chipping are not evenly distributed across a car: the side nearer the kerb takes disproportionately more of all three, so a repeated fault on one side is often about where the car is parked and driven rather than about the sensor's quality. On a vehicle where that side is also the one carrying more road spray, both effects push the same way.
As at P2591, both sensors need calibrating together after any front-end work.
