U0054: Vehicle Communication Bus C (-) Shorted to Bus C (+)
What to do
Expect the entertainment and navigation systems to have stopped completely rather than working badly. The car will usually drive normally.
The two wires carrying this network are touching each other, which cancels the signal entirely.
One test confirms it with no manufacturer data at all: near zero ohms across the pair, which is wrong on every network there is.
And one question resolves most of these: did this start the day something was fitted?
A non-original stereo needs an adapter loom, and an adapter loom means terminals crimped and pushed into plugs. Two adjacent pins carrying these wires are very easy to bridge — a stray strand from a crimp, a terminal not pushed fully home so it touches its neighbour.
A network that stopped working on the day a stereo was fitted did not fail — it was wired that way, and that is a much easier thing to put right than a fault somewhere in the car.
So if an adapter loom is fitted, ask for it to be unplugged first. If the network comes back, the search is over.

One route belongs to this network specifically and it is worth naming: a connector re-made during an installation.
Fitting a non-original head unit means an adapter loom, and an adapter loom means terminals being crimped, inserted into housings and sometimes moved between positions. Two adjacent pins carrying a bus pair are trivially easy to bridge — a stray strand from a crimp, a terminal not fully seated so it touches its neighbour, solder that has flowed further than intended.
And it produces a fault that arrives at the moment of installation rather than developing, which is the useful part: a network that stopped working the day a stereo was fitted did not fail. It was wired that way.
So where an adapter loom exists, inspecting its terminals comes before searching the vehicle's own harness — and unplugging it restores the network immediately if that is the cause.
