U0207: Lost Communication With Moveable Roof Control Module A
What to do
The car drives normally and the sunroof or glass roof will not operate.
Two things are worth knowing, and the first often solves it outright.
If this followed a flat battery, a battery change or other electrical work, the roof may just need re-initialising. These modules learn where the panel's end stops are by counting, and that memory is lost with power. Most vehicles have a simple reset — usually holding the switch in one direction for several seconds — and the roof then works normally again. It is worth trying before paying for anything.
Otherwise, suspect blocked drains. A glass roof sits in a tray with drain tubes running down the pillars, and those block with pollen and leaf debris. When they do, the tray overflows into the headlining and down onto the very electronics that operate the roof. If the headlining, pillar trim or a footwell has been damp after rain, say so — that is the actual fault, and replacing a soaked module without clearing the drains simply ruins the next one.
Having the drains cleared periodically is cheap and almost nobody does it.
What this code means
The module operating a moveable roof panel — a sunroof, a panoramic glass roof, or a targa panel — has stopped being heard from. See U0200 for the block's framing and U0206 for the folding-top variant, which is a different mechanism.
A sunroof module's most important property is that it stores a learned position, and knowing that prevents a repair being misread. The module tracks the panel's position by counting motor revolutions from a known reference rather than by an absolute sensor, so it must be initialised — driven to its end stops so it learns where they are. Losing power, replacing the module or disconnecting the battery erases that, and the panel then either refuses to move or moves incorrectly until the initialisation procedure is run.
So a sunroof that stops working after unrelated electrical work is very often an initialisation away from being fine, not a failed motor, and that procedure is normally a specific sequence of holding the switch rather than anything requiring a scan tool.
Water is the other half of this code's story, and here it is not a side effect but the central risk. A glass roof sits in a tray with drain tubes running down each pillar to the sills. Those tubes block with pollen, leaf litter and dirt, and when they do the tray overflows into the headlining and down the pillars — directly onto the module, the roof loom and whatever else is in the way. A panoramic roof has more glass, more tray and more tube to block.
The tell is a damp headlining, a wet A-pillar trim or water in a footwell after rain, and it is worth reporting because it changes the whole diagnosis: the fault is a blocked drain, and the electronics are collateral damage that will simply happen again if only the module is replaced.
Clearing sunroof drains is cheap preventive maintenance that almost nobody does.
