U0324: Software Incompatibility With HVAC Control Module
What to do
Expect parts of the climate control to work and parts not to. It is a programming job rather than a repair.
One thing makes it worth doing sooner rather than later, and it is not comfort. If the air conditioning will not run, the car cannot dry the air — so the windscreen will clear slowly or not at all in cold, damp weather. That is a visibility problem rather than a convenience one, and it is the reason not to leave this until the next service.
Use the heated windscreen or rear screen if you have one, and allow extra time to demist properly before driving off.
And if your car is electric or a plug-in hybrid, mention this alongside any charging or range complaint. The same system that heats and cools you also heats and cools the battery — warming it so it can take a fast charge, cooling it when it is working hard. So a climate fault can show up as slow charging, less power, or range that has dropped for no obvious reason, and almost nobody connects the two.
Mention anything done to the car recently: a module replaced, a software update, or equipment retrofitted.

Climate control is one of the more configurable systems on a vehicle, and that is what a mismatch exposes: single or dual zone, whether there is a rear system, an auxiliary heater, a heat pump, a heated windscreen, seat heating, air quality sensing, and which refrigerant the vehicle was filled with. All of it is configuration rather than hardware.
So the ordinary outcome is a system that works partly, with individual functions missing or controls that no longer do anything, rather than one that has stopped.
Two consequences deserve more than that, and the first is not about comfort at all.
Demisting is a visibility system. A climate system that will not run its compressor cannot dehumidify the air, so the windscreen clears slowly or not at all in cold, wet weather. That is a safety matter in the ordinary course of driving, and it is worth treating as a reason to fix this promptly rather than at the next service.
And on an electric vehicle the climate system is part of the drivetrain. The same circuit conditions the battery — warming it to accept a fast charge, cooling it under load — so a mismatch can present as slow charging, reduced power, or range that has fallen for no visible reason, none of which anybody attributes to the heater. A stored climate code alongside a charging complaint on an electric vehicle is worth raising explicitly.
