Mahindra 1.5 mHawk (D15)
1.5 L · inline-4 · turbocompressé · diesel · 2018–present
Également appelé: 4d15, d15 mahindra, mhawk 1.5, 1.5 mhawk
Mahindra's 1.5 diesel — in the XUV300, the Marazzo and the Thar.
⚑ There are two Mahindra 1.5 diesels and they are four cubic centimetres apart. This is the 1,497 cc four-cylinder. The other is 1,493 cc and a three, sold as mCR100 in the Quanto, mHawk100 in the Bolero Neo and mHawk75 in the Bolero — a different block, a different cylinder count and four years older. A capacity read off a registration document cannot tell them apart; count the injectors. See 1.5 three-cylinder (mCR100 / mHawk100).
⚑ It is badged mHawk and it is not the 2.2 mHawk either. That badge sits on at least two unrelated engines: the 2.2 is a re-engineered PSA DW12, with pages here under both 2.2 mHawk and DW12, and twenty years of European fleet history behind it, and none of that applies to this one. Check the displacement before applying anything written about the 2.2 — it is the single commonest way to get a Mahindra diesel diagnosis wrong.
It is a modern common-rail diesel with the modern set: a turbocharger whose oil feed is what the service interval is really protecting, an EGR valve that carbons up, and a particulate filter on the emissions-controlled versions.
Short urban journeys are what break it, and the mechanism is worth stating because it is the commonest reason one is brought in: the filter never reaches temperature, the regeneration attempts fail, and the fuel used trying puts diesel into the sump. A rising oil level is a symptom, not a servicing error.
English-language documentation is thin outside India, so the engine code rather than the model name is what to search on.
