P0524: Motoroliedruk te laag
Niet doorrijden
Stop the engine now and do not restart it. This is one of the few codes where continuing to drive, even a short distance, can destroy the engine outright. Check the oil level once the engine has stood for a few minutes; if it is low, topping up may restore pressure, but the loss still needs explaining. If the level is correct, have the vehicle transported rather than driven. Running an engine on low oil pressure to reach a garage frequently costs more than the recovery would have.
Wat deze code betekent
The module has determined that oil pressure is genuinely below the minimum the engine requires. Unlike the circuit codes around it, this one is a judgement about the engine rather than about a signal, and it is the most serious code in this block by a wide margin.
Oil pressure is what keeps the crankshaft and camshaft riding on a film of oil rather than on metal. Without it, bearing damage begins in seconds and becomes irreversible in minutes — and the resulting repair is an engine rebuild or replacement rather than a part.
The causes divide into cheap and expensive, and the cheap ones are worth checking first because they are common: simply low oil level, the wrong grade, an oil filter that has collapsed internally, or a blocked pickup strainer. The expensive ones are a worn pump, a stuck pressure relief valve, and worn bearings — where the low pressure is a symptom of wear rather than its cause.
