P2558: Koelvloeistofniveausensor of -schakelaar — circuit laag
Wat te doen
Before assuming this is an electrical fault, open the bonnet on a cold engine and look at the coolant level in the expansion tank. It takes a minute and it decides the whole job: a correct level means a wiring or sensor problem, and a low level means the warning is real and something is leaking. Never open the cap on a hot engine — the system is under pressure and the coolant is above boiling point.
Wat deze code betekent
The coolant level circuit reads below its valid range — a short to ground, or on a switched design a permanently closed contact.
Which electrical state means low coolant differs between vehicles, and that is the thing to establish before deciding this is a wiring fault. On a good many designs the low state is exactly what a genuinely empty system produces, so the reading may be correct and the coolant may really have gone.
The check that settles it costs nothing: look in the expansion tank with the engine cold. If the level is where it should be, the circuit is at fault. If it is not, the circuit is telling the truth and the question becomes where the coolant went — which is P2560.
