Lexus SC
Two unrelated cars under one badge, and the year separates them absolutely. The first SC is a Toyota Soarer — a rear-drive coupé with the 2JZ-GE straight six or the 1UZ-FE V8, sharing its running gear with the Supra and the LS. The second is the SC 430, a folding-hardtop convertible with the 3UZ-FE V8, whose roof mechanism, hydraulic pump and boot-mounted linkage are the fault family that defines it and have no counterpart in the earlier car. A 1997 SC and a 2005 SC share nothing but the letters.
