Volvo 850
The car that made Volvo front-wheel drive, and the ancestor of every S60, V70 and S80 that followed — the P80 platform, the transverse five-cylinder and the Delta-link rear axle all start here. Two things decide most work on one: the five-cylinder's timing belt is an interference design with a service interval people ignore, and the T5 and 850R's turbocharger shares its charge-air and boost-control layout with a decade of later Volvos, so their documentation reads across. The saloon became the S70 and the estate the V70 for 1997 without changing platform.
