The airbag warning light means the airbags may not deploy correctly. The car is safe to drive to a garage but should not be left.
The front crash sensors work as a pair, one on each side of the car's nose. They are not spares for each other — the difference between what the two of them feel is how the car works out whether it has been hit head-on, at an angle, or on one corner, and that decides which airbags fire.
So this fault is often about the two no longer agreeing rather than one having failed, which is why it is worth asking for both to be checked rather than only the one the code names. A single sensor replaced out of a mismatched pair is a repair that comes back.
As before: mention any accident repair or front-end work, however old, and however minor it seemed. And do not accept a resistor fitted in place of a sensor under any circumstances.

A restraints system sensor is reporting a value that cannot be accepted as true. See U0471 for the family's framing and U0452 for the safety rules.
Front crash sensors come in pairs — one on each side of the vehicle's nose — and the pairing is not redundancy. It is a measurement.
A collision has a direction, and the difference between what the left and right sensors feel is how the module works out whether it is a full-width impact, an offset one, or a pole strike — decisions which change which airbags fire and how hard. Two sensors give an angle; one gives only a magnitude.
The consequence for this code is that it is often about a disagreement rather than a failure. A pair that no longer agree under ordinary road inputs — a speed bump, a pothole, a kerb — produces an implausible pattern with neither sensor being individually broken. One that is a fraction loose, one mounted a few degrees out, or one on a repaired side and one on original structure, is enough.
So the sensible move is to examine both, not the one named. Checking mounting, torque and orientation on the pair costs little more than checking one, and replacing a single sensor of a mismatched pair is a repair that comes back.
