BMW X1

The compact SUV, and the model where BMW changed its own rules — the E84 is rear-wheel-drive-based on the 3 Series platform, and the F48 from 2015 is front-wheel-drive-based on the Mini's UKL2. That is a complete architectural inversion under one nameplate: the engine sits longitudinally in one and transversely in the other, the gearbox is a ZF automatic in one and an Aisin or dual-clutch in the other, and almost no driveline component carries across. Establishing the generation is not optional here.
