Great Wall Motors Tank 300

A body-on-frame off-roader launched under GWM's Tank sub-brand, and the first serious ladder-frame vehicle in the group's modern range — so nothing from the monocoque Haval crossovers applies to its chassis. It uses the 2.0 turbo petrol with a ZF-derived eight-speed automatic and a proper two-speed transfer case, plus front and rear locking differentials on higher trims, each with its own actuator and position sensor. A driveline warning here is usually a locker or transfer-case actuator rather than anything mechanical, which is the most useful thing to establish first. The hybrid version adds a high-voltage system with its own separate procedures.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
