Mahindra Xylo

The rear-wheel-drive MPV that carried families and fleets for a decade, on Mahindra's Ingenio platform and mechanically closer to the Scorpio than to any other people carrier. Rear drive with a live axle in a vehicle shaped like a van is the thing to establish first: nothing from a front-drive MPV applies to its driveline, and the load it usually carries means the rear suspension and the propshaft joints wear at commercial rates.

Two unrelated diesels were fitted and they want different manuals. The 2.5 mDI CRDe is the older Peugeot XD3 lineage Mahindra had built for decades — the same family as the Bolero's and the Scorpio's m2DiCR — while the 2.2 mHawk is the later engine, itself a licence-built Peugeot DW12. Both are Peugeot-descended, which is genuinely useful and invisible from the vehicle, but they are different Peugeot engines a generation apart.

Fuel contamination is the commonest cause of a running complaint on a vehicle used this way, and the fuel-filter water sensor is where it announces itself. Injector return flow is the fastest route through a rough-running case on either engine.
