Failed fuel volume regulator
The valve metering how much fuel the high-pressure pump takes in, which is how rail pressure is controlled on most common-rail systems. It is a serviceable part on the pump rather than the pump itself, and it fails far more often — so a rail pressure fault is not automatically a pump.
