Cause
Intermittent open in sensor wiring
A break that makes and breaks rather than staying open, so the fault is stored and gone by the time anybody looks. Whether it appears with heat, vibration, damp or a particular manoeuvre narrows the location far better than a meter does, and that pattern is something only whoever drives the car can report.
